Regional Development Programme for Security and Civilian Crisis Management 2006 - 2007

The project Regional Development Programme for Security and Civilian Crisis Management was funded by the State Provincial Office of Eastern Finland, the European Social Fund (ESF) and the City of Kuopio. The project was carried out August 1st, 2006, until December 31st, 2007, at Crisis Management Centre (CMC Finland) in cooperation with Crisis Management Initiative (CMI), the University of Kuopio, Savonia University of Applied Sciences and the Geological Survey of Finland.

The central idea of the project was to comprehensively survey the expertise knowledge of the security field in North Savo, and to assess the possible needs for further development and proceedings especially from the point of view of civilian crisis management. The aim of the project was to gather actors  working in the fields of security and crisis management together and create active interaction between these different actors,  which in turn would produce research projects, training and product development. By utilizing the strengths and expertise in North Savo, a security expertise cluster could be established, in which civilian crisis management expertise holds a central role. In addition, the project aimed to further the development of Kuopio into a centre of expertise in societal security. As a result of this, CMC Finland would become the leading actor, and centre of expertise, in civilian crisis management research in Finland. Furthermore, the project aimed to lay the foundation for a CMC Finland publication series in English, in which multidisclipinary research on civilian crisis management would be published.
