The events that occurred during the spring of 2011 shocked the world and brought new attention to the international security agenda. The spirit of revolution spread like wild fire through North Africa and the Arab world. It was sparked by the desperate act of one and galvanized through the will and perseverance of millions. Revolutions in Tunisia, Egypt, Syria, and Libya have forced a re-examination of how revolution and security are understood. These revolutions politicized those who were previous non-political and became a bottom-up movement that called for reform and regime overhaul with youth directly at the centre. It was surprising due to the speed, context and tools used as well as implications it had on a global level. It is undeniable that these revolts fed off each other and spread at an unprecedented pace, but what is important is that there are now new voices that are being heard loud and clear through new means, we must now understand why, how and what this means for the future.
This will be a full day event, there will be a morning plenary session followed by practical sessions in the afternoon that focus on future research needs.
