Viking is a command post exercise and a distributed computer assisted exercise. This means that various headquarters, commanders, heads of mission or office, and staffs, will be trained in a number of locations using computers to assist in managing the scenario, the events and incidents, and the exercise play in general.
The scenario is designed to facilitate a UN mandated Chapter VII crisis response operation or peace support operation, requiring a joint and multifunctional military and civilian presence (incl. police). Specifically, the mission will be an assistance mission with a UN presence, a Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF) under NATO command and an EU-led Battle Group. For more information on the scenario, please visit www.viking.mil.se.
The exercise is organised by the Swedish Armed Forces and the Finnish site will be located in Tuusula at the premises of FINCENT. The exercise will take place from 3rd to 15 November, and is open to civilians of various categories, such as NGOs, civil servants and police. A site visit will be organised on 18 October for anyone interested in taking part in the exercise.
