10002 EU Concept Core Course X and XI1>

Target group: |  | Experts of various professions with no or some mission experience. Applications are invited from all fields of expertise needed in the crisis management missions, such as: police, customs, border, civilian administration, rule of law, gender, human rights, logistics, human resources, information management etc. Experts with background in the field of security, human resources, finance, logistics, procurement and ITC working as support staff in missions are particularly encouraged to apply.

| Course content: |  | The EU Concept Core Course is an essential pre-requisite for anyone being deployed to a field mission. The overall aim of the course is to provide general knowledge and skills needed in a civilian crisis management mission, independent of the specific function an expert will fulfil within a given mission.
The course will answer to basic questions such as:
- What is meant by EU civilian crisis management and why is it needed?
- What are the priority areas and EU structures in civilian crisis management?
- What are the multiple international actors in crisis prevention and management, and how can coordination be enhanced?
- What type of practical skills is needed for working in a mission?
- How can human rights and gender be mainstreamed in a mission environment?
- What is meant by the human security concept and how is it taken into consideration in civilian crisis management?
- What does local ownership mean and why is it important?

| Selection criteria: |  | 1) an educational degree (preferably Master’s degree)
2) professional background suitable for civilian crisis management missions
3) relevant work experience after graduation (minimum 3 years).
4) some mission experience is an asset, but not a requirement
5) readiness and willingness to be deployed in civilian crisis management missions within one year from the course dates
6) skills to work in a multicultural work environment
7) good working knowledge of English
8) valid driving license (category B)
9) good physical and mental health
Kindly notice that there is only one application period for EU Concept Core courses X and IX, from 15th of December, 2009 to 12th of March 2010.

| Information on the course: |  | Finnish applicants: the cost of training, meals, accommodation and travel within Finland is free. No per diem is provided by CMC Finland.
Non-Finnish applicants: the course fee 1100 € will cover all costs, such as tuition, meals and accomodation as well as travel arrangements during the course. Travel to the course venue is not organised nor paid by CMC Finland. In addition no per diem is provided by CMC Finland.
