10005 Integrated Crisis Management (ICM) Course III

Target group:

Civilian including police and military experts with previous or current experience from civilian and/or military crisis management and peace building missions preferably from sub-Saharan Africa, but also elsewhere. In addition, humanitarian and development experts with international work experience concerning gender, human rights, child protection, sexual violence and project management are encouraged to apply as prospective experts to future civilian crisis management missions.

Course content:The overall aim of the course is two-folded:
1) to enhance the knowledge and understanding of the integrated and comprehensive crisis management approaches and
2) to enhance collaboration and coordination among the different actors, namely military, civilian crisis management, humanitarian and development aid actors in a crisis/confl ict area

The course will provide to answers questions such as:

• What are the different concepts and terminology used by international organizations? (United Nations, European Union, NATO, African Union)
• What is the framework and different time phases within integrated and comprehensive crisis management?
• What are the different roles, concepts and organizational situations of the different actors in a crisis/conflict area?
• How and why should we take into consideration the local context (culture,
gender issues, human security etc.) when working in mission?
• What are the synergies and opportunities for co-operation among different actors including local stakeholders?
• How can collaboration with multiple local and international actors be improved?

Selection criteria:Selection criteria:
- mission experience preferably from Africa, but also elsewhere
- readiness and willingness to participate in civilian crisis management missions
- skills to work in a multicultural work environment
- organisational level from middle, senior level experts, Head of Offices to Executive Directors.

General requirements:
- good working knowledge of English
- valid driving license (category B)
- physically and mentally in good health

Non-Finnish applicants: the cost of training, meals and accomodation is free. Travel is organised and payed by the non-Finnish applicants. No per diem is provided by CMC Finland.
