The Emergency Services College Library (The ESC Library) is a scientific and professional library focusing on emergency services. It is the College library but it also functions as the central library of emergency services in Finland. The ESC Library maintains a national database, which contains catalogued items in the College’s own collection, but even the items in the collections of the Department for Rescue Services at the Ministry of the Interior, of The Finnish National Rescue Association (SPEK, see www.spek.fi ) and of The Finnish Association of Fire Chiefs (SPPL, see www.sppl.fi). The database has been catalogued according to the UDC classification, and we use PrettyLib, a Finnish library database software. Our collection contains about 19,000 books and 700 videos and we receive some 150 periodicals. The ESC Library serves primarily the College’s students and staff as well as our stakeholder organisations, such as fire and rescue departments and associations of the emergency sector. Other user groups of the Library are students at polytechnics and universities.
