The Emergency Services College is situated in Kuopio on the suburb of Petonen which is about ten kilometres from the Kuopio city centre. Kuopio is a modern and developing city in eastern Finland and it is a city of economic growth, science and technology. A unique nature, an excellent quality of services, and an enjoyable living environment make Kuopio an attractive place to live. The growing and developing city has not forgotten its roots, but still values the genuine and positive Savo.

Kuopio, which was founded in 1775, is the 8th largest city in Finland. These days there are about 90,000 inhabitants in the city and about 600,000 people live in the surrounding area. Of the people living in Kuopio, 90 per cent live in the city centre or in suburbs. The citizens of Kuopio are somewhat younger and better educated than on the average.
