Research and development projects<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The projects carried out by CMC Finland are either research or development projects. Research projects are often implemented as part of larger consortia. The development projects referred to here also tend to be of a broader nature, aimed at developing the Ministry of the Interior\u2019s branch of government as a whole, for example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In already completed projects, we have been involved in developing the effectiveness of crisis management in such projects as the EU-funded IECEU and the VNTEAS-Afghanistan project, which developed impact assessment based on the lessons learned from Afghanistan. We have also been involved in creating training and tools for field operations in the context of implementing the Women, Peace and Security resolution, with, for example, the Egyptian CCCPA centre and UN Women. We have been developing the administrative branch internally in such projects as SEEK, which analysed how the situational picture of the Ministry of the Interior is built.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n

Enhancing internal security skills in climate change, STOPPI<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The project examined the current state of information, preparedness and capabilities related to climate security in the Ministry of the Interior\u2019s administrative branch. The project involved partners from different departments of the Ministry of the Interior and from the Finnish Immigration Service. The project aimed to develop internal security competence to respond to the challenges posed by climate change, environmental degradation and biodiversity loss. The project was implemented in 2024.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Peacebuilding and Local Knowledge Network (PLKN)<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

As part of this project, an international PLKN network was established. With the funding provided by the Canadian Research Council, it aims to develop a conceptual framework for how international crisis management and peace operations acquire, use and integrate local information in the planning, implementation and monitoring of operations.
