HEAT is <span class=\"Bold\">an intensive course<\/span> aimed at training civilian crisis management professionals <span class=\"Bold\">to deal effectively with high-risk and emergency situations in hostile environments<\/span>. The completion of HEAT is a prerequisite for any mission with the risk rating &#8216;high&#8217; or &#8216;critical&#8217;. These missions currently include e.g. Ukraine, Central African Republic, Iraq, Libya, Mali, Niger, Somalia and South Sudan. If you intend to apply <span class=\"Underline\">only<\/span> for low or medium risk missions or Secretariat positions only, you do not need to complete the HEAT course. However, HEAT training is valuable in any civilian crisis management operation.<\/p>\n<p>CMC Finland organizes\u00a0<strong>HEAT 1-2023\u00a0<\/strong> in Helsinki and J\u00e4mij\u00e4rvi, Finland <strong>from 20 to 25 April 2023.<\/strong> We will accept applications until 1615 hours (Finnish time UTC +02:00) on 15 March 2023.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Bold\">The overall objectives<\/span> of the course are:<br \/>\n<span class=\"Bold\">(1)<\/span> to improve participants\u2019 knowledge of multiple threats present in hostile field environments and of ways and means of dealing with them in an effective manner;\u00a0and<br \/>\n<span class=\"Bold\">(2) <\/span>to rehearse and practice safety and security procedures according to specific threats.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Bold\">The course themes are<\/span>:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>Awareness of Threats, Risks, and Personal Security<\/li>\n<li>Risk Assessment<\/li>\n<li>Mobile Security: Safety and Security Procedures for Vehicle Movement<\/li>\n<li>Management of Threats related to Gatherings, Protests, Demonstrations, and Riots<\/li>\n<li>Hostage\u00a0Situations and Conduct after Capture<\/li>\n<li>Stress Management, Awareness of\u00a0First Aid\u00a0and Health Maintenance on mission<\/li>\n<li>Weapons, Mines, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and Unexploded Ordenances (UXOs)<\/li>\n<li>Protection of Classified and Sensitive Information<\/li>\n<li>Radio Communication, Maps and Use of GPS<\/li>\n<li>Four-by-Four Driving<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"Bold\">Target Group<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The main target group for this training is civilian crisis management experts (to be deployed, recently deployed or aiming at applying to low \/ middle \/ high \/ critical risk civilian crisis management missions) who haven&#8217;t yet attended to HEAT -training or whose HEAT-certificate has expired. The participants have preferably attended at least a general introductory course on civilian crisis management operations, or gained relevant experience in international field operations.<\/p>\n<p>Also other applicants currently or aiming at working or travelling in hostile environments may also apply for the course.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"Bold\">Costs\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span class=\"Bold\">For participants who have completed the basic training on Civilian Crisis Management<\/span> (BCCCM, EUPCC, IPOC, UNPOC etc., either organized or appointed by CMC) <span class=\"Bold\">or been deployed by CMC Finland<\/span>, there is no course fee.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"Bold\">For those who have not completed the above-mentioned training or have not been deployed by CMC<\/span>, there is a 1800\u20ac\u00a0fee\u00a0covering tuition,\u00a0full-board accommodation in shared team cottages\u00a0and travels during the course.<\/p>\n<p>Salaries, daily allowances and travel to\/from the course venue in Helsinki, Finland, are the responsibility of the sending organisation\/participants themselves. CMC Finland does not cover any possible accommodation outside the course dates.
