Women, Peace and Security at 25 – Learning from Achievements, Responding to Challenges

You are warmly invited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security at the Finlandia Hall on Friday, 5 September 2025.

This anniversary seminar brings together national and international experts, policymakers, and civil society actors to discuss how the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) agenda can be advanced in today’s challenging security environment, both in Finland and globally.

The event aims not only to celebrate achievements but also to critically assess the current state of the WPS agenda and explore new solutions for promoting peace and security.

The event will be opened by Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Elina Valtonen. Speakers include experts from countries such as Ukraine and Afghanistan. The panel discussions focus on Finland’s role in promoting the WPS agenda in conflicts and in peacekeeping operations. A timely theme of the seminar will also be comprehensive security from a WPS perspective.

The event will be moderated by Katri Makkonen. The event can be attended in person (please note: limited seating) or followed via livestream. The working languages of the seminar are Finnish and English (no interpretation provided).
