General Staff Officer Timo Hämäläinen has been appointed Director of the Crisis Management Centre (CMC Finland). The appointment is for the period from 9 June 2025 to 8 June 2030.
Timo Hämäläinen has served as Deputy Head of Mission for the EUCAP Somalia operation since 2023, deployed by the Crisis Management Centre. From 2019 to 2022, he led the Donetsk monitoring team of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (SMMU). In addition to his experience in civilian crisis management operations, he has participated in several military crisis management missions and has held various leadership positions within the Finnish Defence Forces over several years. He has extensive experience in both civilian and military crisis management.
The Crisis Management Centre (CMC Finland) is a centre of expertise in civilian crisis management operating under the Ministry of the Interior. Its mission is to promote peace, democracy, and the rule of law in line with Finland’s and the EU’s foreign and security policy objectives. Its primary responsibilities include the training and recruitment of experts for international civilian crisis management operations, as well as the oversight of logistical and material preparedness, and the coordination of research and development activities within the field.
