CMC Finland was established fifteen years ago in an environment where it was time to turn the focus from state security to the human being and human security. Latest political events both globally and regionally show that the need for civilian crisis management is at least as crucial today as it was at the time when CMC Finland started its work.
However, there is also a need for development and keeping up with our changing environment. Civilian crisis management actors must reassess their ways of working and evaluate how sustainable we are, and how we succeed in supporting fragile states in an inclusive manner, always respecting local ownership and guided by local needs.
In the future, climate change will most likely increase social and political unrest in areas where civilian crisis management missions operate. It is time to reflect how we will adapt to the coming change in crisis and conflicts.
Our seminar looks into the past as well as future of crisis management and peacebuilding. It also contributes to the discussion on the future of civilian crisis management, including, among others, inclusive peace and sustainable development. The programme can be found in here.
